§ 20-187.2. <br /> <br />Ba.d. ges nnd service side a~:~s of deceased or <br />retir/ng members of State, city and county <br />law-enforcement agencies; weapons of active <br />members, <br /> <br /> (a) Surviving spouses, or ~n the event such members die ,~..~urvived by a <br />spouse, surviving children ofmembere of No,ch Carolina State, city and coun~y <br />Mw-enforcement agencies ~]led in the ]~ne of. duty or who are members of such <br />agencies at the ~ime of their deaths, and retiring members of such agencies <br />shall receiv~ upon request and at no cost to them, the badge worn or carried by <br />such deceased or retiring members. The governing body of a law-enforcement <br />agency may, in its discretion, also award rca retiring, mere. her or s .m~_ 'ring <br />relative as provided herein, upon request, the serwce side arm of such <br />deceased or retiring members, at a price detarr~ned by such gever~i,~g body, <br />upon securing a perr-i~, as required by G.S. 14-402 et seq. or 14-409.I et seq., <br />or without such permit provided the weapon, shall lmve been rendered <br />incapable of being fired. Go~,er-!~g body shall ~ean for county and local <br />alcohol beverage control officers, the county or local board of alcoholic control; <br />for all other law-enforcement officers with jurisd/ction llmi+,ed to a m,~,~dpal- <br />ity or town, the city or to,v- council; for all other law-enforcement officers with <br />countywide jurisdiction, the board of county comvn~ioners; for all State <br />law-enforcement officers, the head of the department. <br /> (b) Active members ofl~erth Carolina State law-enfercement agencies, upon <br />change of type of weapons, may purchase the weapon worn or carried by such <br />member at a price which shsll be the average yield to the State from the sale <br />of slrnl]ar weapous during the preceding year.
