ICASAB USCOU I

June 29, 2001

To:

Cabarrus County Manager
Cabarrus County Deputy Manager
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners

From:

Mr. Steve L. Little, Director
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department

Subject: National Recreation and Parks Month

Attached is a resolution proclaiming July as Recreation and Parks Month in
Cabarrus County. The following is a brief summary of the National Recreation
and Parks Month celebration:

July is National Recreation and Parks Month. It was
designated as such in 1956 by the National Recreation and Parks
Association (NRPA) at the request of recreation leaders nationwide.
They implored their national association to designate a month for
the purpose of promoting the benefits of parks and focusing public
attention on recreation and its importance for satisfying living. June
was the month initially selected, but it was shifted to July due to the
extension of the school year in 1985. In recognition of this month,
local, state and federal parks and recreation agencies throughout
the country are scheduling Celebrate July activities and
celebrations.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. Thank
you for your cooperation concerning these matters.

Parks and Recreation Department

65 Church Street SE · P.O.
