Cabarrus County Public Library

ICASARRUS COUN I
~ORTH CAROLINA

27 Union St. North, Concord, NC 28025 Tel: (704) 788-3167

Augustl0,2001

Fax: (704) 784-3822

Mr. Arne L. Fennel, Chairman
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
P.O. Box 707
Concord, NC 28026-0707

Dear Chairman Fennel;

Please be advised that Tonia Black-Gold, a member of the Cabarrus County Board
of Library Trustees has advised me that, due primarily to employment obligations, she
does not wish to be considered for reappointment to the Board. Mrs. Black Gold has
been an active member of the Library Board and a strong supporter as well as regular
patron of our library system.

When the Board of Library Trustees was created in 1985, it was decided that the
seven seats would represent the County geographically. Two seats each were designated
for Concord and Kannapolis with the remaining seats represented by Harrisburg, Mt.
Pleasant and southern Cabarrus County. Mrs. Black-Gold, a resident of the Georgeville
area and occupied the seat representing the southern portion of our county.

Among citizens who have submitted expressions of interest in being appointed to
the Library Board is Mrs. Barbara F Viehmann who resides in the Flowes Store/Pioneer
Mill area in southern Cabarrus County. Mrs. Viehmann works in real estate and is an
active library user. I spoke with Mrs. Viehmann recently and she expressed a strong
interest in being appointed to the Board of Library Trustees.

I believe that Mrs. Viehmann, through her expression of interest, deserves your
consideration for appointment to fill the seat that is currently vacant. On behalf of the
Board of Library Trustees, I respectfully request that this matter be considered at the next
regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Commissioners.

Sincerely,

Thomas W.
