Over 41% of the <br />students are from one-parent families or stepfamilies. This puts extra stress on children who are already at a vet)' <br />crucial point in their development. <br /> <br />Each day, a carefully selected & trained staff provides learning experiences that provide educational, social, physical, <br />mental and emotional skill-building activities. The supervised activities are designed to provide experiences that <br />promote cooperation, sharing, improved self-esteem, good citizenship, community services, and responsibility. <br /> <br />· In 1999-00, community support has come in the form of business and civic organization participation as well az over <br /> 147 different volunteers who have shared their time and interests with the students. <br /> <br />Students, parents and school administration has evaluated the program very favorably as meeting the expectations of the <br />program. With anticipation of the renewal of the SOS grant of $65,000, plans are made to continue service at LN. Fries <br />Middle School with the after school program and to continue the summer day camp activities. Further services will be <br />dependent on additional grant opportunities. <br /> <br />PERFORMANCE DATA ADDENDUM: <br />The following have occurred among participants in 1999-2000: <br /> In-school suspensions have been reduced by 9%. <br /> Out-of-school suspensions have been reduced by 4%. <br /> In two years EOG reading scores have increased 26%. <br /> In two years EOG math scores have increased 14%. <br /> Students receiving a course grade of C or better improved from 76% to 87% in math and from 79% to 89% in social <br /> studies. <br /> <br /> <br />
