The courtrooms on the third floor appear to have been done during the
renovations last year.

However, ITS is charged with looking 5 to 10 years out for any projects we undertake.
Considering this prime directive and in view of the facts that:

The AOC is upgrading its network to Ethernet from token ring, and
The original courthouse cabling infrastructure appears to have been ill-planned, leading
to what is tantamount to a rats' nest in the wails and ceilings of that facility, and
The building is in desperate need of a revised cabling design and implementation, and
Gene plans to request funds next year for remodeling the first floor and subsequently
relocating some offices

I am requesting that we re-cable the building (excepting what has already been done on the third
floor), allowing for Gene's planned renovations. In order to comply with the 5/10 directive, it is
necessary to arrive at a serviceable, fully functional, and supportable voice/data network design
that will provide satisfactory connectivity for that facility well into the future. Once I have the
design in-hand, I can send the prints out and get firm bids. It is estimated that it will take a
minimum of two weeks to work out the design, which will take advantage of the planned
renovations and consolidate cabling infrastructure into one stacked communications closet on
each floor, instead of the 2 to 5 points currently on each floor.

The cost of design services is expected to be $4500 - $5000. The cabling cost for the first floor
(Gene's original request) should be between $23,000 and $25,000. The cost of cabling the
second floor is projected to be from $16,500 to $20,000. The total project cost (first and second
floors) of design and installation of new infrastructure and demolition of the existing cabling on
the second floor is expected to fall between $44,000 and $50,000.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Steve
