Resolution No. 2001- RESOLUTION In Support Of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College WHEREAS, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is a valuable asset to Cabarrus County by providing educational opportunities to its citizens; and WHEREAS, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College contributes to the economic stability of Cabarrus County by providing job training and retraining for its workers; and WHEREAS, as the state's first multi-campus community college, Rowan- Cabarrus Community College has been operating for years on a far leaner budget than other community colleges in the state; and WHEREAS, because of the dynamics of its service region, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has grown over 35 percent in the past five years, exceeding the growth of most community colleges in the state; and WHEREAS, the State budget crisis and required budget reversions have caused the President of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to call for a cap on student enrollments and a moratorium on new program development and new construction; and WHEREAS, this student enrollment cap may adversely affect the ability of all our citizens to be offered the opportunity to improve their lives and receive possible necessary workforce training. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners urges the State of Nodh Carolina to provide adequate multi-campus funding and to reconsider budget reversions required of the state community colleges so that Rowan-Cabarrus Community College may continue to operate with an "open door" policy, giving our citizens the equal opportunity to benefit, not only themselves, but the well being of the entire community.
