Resolution No. 2001- <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> In Support Of <br />Rowan-Cabarrus Community College <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is a valuable asset to <br />Cabarrus County by providing educational opportunities to its citizens; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College contributes to the economic <br />stability of Cabarrus County by providing job training and retraining for its workers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, as the state's first multi-campus community college, Rowan- <br />Cabarrus Community College has been operating for years on a far leaner budget than <br />other community colleges in the state; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, because of the dynamics of its service region, Rowan-Cabarrus <br />Community College has grown over 35 percent in the past five years, exceeding the <br />growth of most community colleges in the state; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State budget crisis and required budget reversions have caused <br />the President of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to call for a cap on student <br />enrollments and a moratorium on new program development and new construction; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this student enrollment cap may adversely affect the ability of all our <br />citizens to be offered the opportunity to improve their lives and receive possible <br />necessary workforce training. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners urges the State of Nodh Carolina to provide adequate multi-campus <br />funding and to reconsider budget reversions required of the state community colleges so <br />that Rowan-Cabarrus Community College may continue to operate with an "open door" <br />policy, giving our citizens the equal opportunity to benefit, not only themselves, but the <br />well being of the entire community. <br /> <br />Adopted this 19th day of November 2001. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Arne L.
