The Senate's stimulus version contains 3 relief proposals that would provide an additional $265 million in federal Medicaid funding to NC, of which $40 million would offset county Medicaid costs. The House package does not contain any Medicaid relief, although a recently introduced bill--HR 3414 would provide even greater federal funding to support NC's Medicaid program. Please find attached a NCACC congressional issue paper that describes these proposals in greater depth. We encourage you and your commissioners to contact your congressional representatives-- particularly House members--and let them know how critical federal Medicaid relief is to our counties. Please let them know that any negotiations around the economic stimulus package should contain either the Senate's version or the House's proposed bill for federal Medicaid relief. We understand that the delegation should be home for the weekend, to reconvene next Tuesday to finalize stimulus negotiations, so please contact them as soon as possible.
