Further, he stated there
is the potential to acquire additional property adjacent to the site for the
relocation of the school bus garage.

There was discussion about the proposal and other options concerning
the School Administrative Office. Discussion centered on the visibility of
the proposed location, the expense of a new office complex and the need for
additional infrastructure to support the growth in the schools. The School
Board will consider its options on February 14ch and provide a response to the
County at that time.

County Commission members expressed no objections to the proposed use
of the Highway 49 property for the School Administrative Office if the School
Board decides to pursue that option. Under the current proposal, the County
would have to finance the construction cost of approximately $2.5 million for
the new School Administrative Office.

Ten-Ysar Facilities Plan

Dr. Harold Winkler, Cabarrus County School Superintendent, distributed
a Ten-Year Facilities Plan for the Cabarrus County Schools showing the time
line for the purchase of property for new schools and projected new school
construction. He pointed out the plan would need to be updated annually
based on the projected growth rate. In addition to the new elementary and
two middle schools currently being designed, the County will need five other
schools by 2010. These schools would include the replacements for Odell and
Bethel Elementary as well as a new elementary, new middle and new high
school.

AdJourn-~ent

There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman
Fennel adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.

Clerk to the Board
