Her work at the Cabarrus
County DSS began after her family moved here. She started work as an
Income Maintenance Caseworker on October 1, 1979. From the outset, she
demonstrated a strong work ethic and an ability to produce a quality product
under pressure. Her talents were recognized and, over the years, she
progressed steadily to higher and higher levels of responsibility. She was
promoted to Supervisor in August, 1990. At the time of her retirement, she
was the Supervisor of the Adult Income Maintenance Review Unit which is
responsible for the maintenance of all the of financial assistance programs
in DSS for disabled and aged adults. This is a very large responsibility.

Mrs. Long has made herself an integral part of the Department of
Social Services and valuable resource to her staff and clients served. Ms.
Long has been a dedicated employee striving to meets high expectations
that she has set for herself. Since becoming Supervisor she has focused on
helping the staff with the job demands (interpret policy and get reviews
completed) and has also worked with each on an individual basis to support
them in their personal growth. She has gone above and beyond the
expectations of a supervisor to be there when her staff needed support or
assistance.

It has been a privilege to serve with Mrs. Long. I know she has earned
the highest respect of everyone here in the Department of Social Services,
in Cabarrus County government, and throughout the community.

Mrs. Long has profoundly touched us all and we will miss her as she
leaves to pursue other challenges and make her impact in other arenas.
