O. Boa ?07
Concord, NC 28026-0707

Dear Mr. Clilton:

We certainly appreciate all that thc County h~ flied to do to help us cope with the cnniinued growth ;md to
provid~ schoolsin C~rrus County. We feel very fortunat¢~have the two ncw middle schools nnd thcncw
elementary ~chool to off~ct some o£thc ip'owth that is affecting our system. Unfo~'unately, ~hool~ cannot
b~ built overnight and we must wait several years for ¢omplelion of the needed ~acc. L~ the meantime, we
have to dctcrmlnc the best educational approach to meet the needs croat students.

We realize that wc have ¢Oumdt~d ~he property/'or the old Harrisburg Elcmaenlary School and undtwstand
thai you arc presently going through an upset bid process with the property. We do riel know if it is at all
possible tbr thc Commissioners at this time to ~onsi&r allowing us tu house sixth- grade students in the
building until the new middle schools are comple~d. We could use the downstairs classrooms and place
porlables at fig existing school to hous= sixth-grade students for the nc~t two school years. This would help
provide r~lief for J. N, Fries and Northwest Middle School until thc completion of thc schools.

Wc ~trc cx~'emely I~'ateful for utl ~hat you and the Commissionc'rs have done lo ensure that thc educational
process is not interrupt, cd as we I:ace the growth-related problems. We woukl appreciat~ your scriou.~
consideration or this request. If it is not possible to asc the old Harrisburg Elementary School for an
additional two years, then our next option will be to keep capping in place for two nmre y~rs. The use of
Harrisburg would .flow us lo lill most of the capping we now have in place which would benefit students
directly by giving them shorter has rides to and from school. We ccflainly can make it through the next two
years with capping in place, but if the Harrisburg campus could be available, it would in the long nm be rcax~
beneficial to our students.

In any case. as always, we will continue to strive to de]iver thc best education possihlc for our community.
We appreciate your continued c0ope~afion.

Sincerely,

Board Chair

CAL:jmt

Cnbarms County Commissioners
Cab~s County Board of Education

~_ q An ~ulual
~ OI,F*nrtun#Y llrapioy~r
