Section 6 <br />Education, Special Wastes, Illegal Disposal, and Purchasing: Assessment of Programs and Description <br /> of Intended Actions <br /> <br />6.3 White Goods <br />Current Program: The County collects white goods at the landfill and sells the <br />metal on the open market. Each municipality in the planning area provides collection <br />of white goods for their residents and delivers them to the County landfill. <br /> <br />Intended Actions: At the present time, the County intends to continue the white <br />goods collection program. In addition, the County, in conjunction with the City of <br />Concord, is developing a permanent white goods and household hazardous waste <br />drop-off facility that should be available for use by the fiscal year 2000 - 2001. The <br />facility will be within the city limits of Concord off Highway 49, which will provide a <br />more centralized location to allow easier drop-off for all municipalities. <br /> <br />6.4 Lead-acid Batteries <br />Current Program: Residents must bring their batteries to the landfill for drop off. <br />Batteries are taken from the landfill by a private company, Battery Plus, from <br />Charlotte, North Carolina. <br /> <br />Intended Actions: At the present time, the County intends to continue the <br />battery collection program. <br /> <br />6.5 Used Motor Oil <br />Current Program: Residents must bring their used motor oil to the landfill for <br />drop off. Used motor oil is taken from the landfill by a private firm, Resource <br />Recovery, from Charlotte, North Carolina. <br /> <br />Intended Actions: At the present time, the County intends to continue the used <br />motor oil collection program. <br /> <br />AX <br /> <br />6.6 Household Hazardous Waste <br />Current Program: One time per year the County accepts household hazardous <br />waste collected at the county fairgrounds. <br /> <br />Intended Actions: The County, in conjunction with the City of Concord, is <br />developing a permanent white goods and household hazardous waste drop-off <br />facility that should be available for use by the fiscal year 2000 - 2001. The facility will <br />be within the city limits of Concord, which will provide a more centralized location to <br /> <br />8-2 <br /> <br /> <br />
