electing counties would have to issue their own assistance checks. This has not been the

Request

I am requesting that the Board of Commissioners take the following actions
at its meeting of 8-21-00:

1)

Request Senator Hartsell pursue an extension, beyond the current
expiration date of 6-30-01, for the Work Over Welfare Program in the
2001 session of the General Assembly,

2)

Vote at the 8-21-00 meeting to request a change from "standard" to
"electing" status for Cabarrus. (A certification page is included in the
attached plan outline material. On that certification, I would be happy to
serve as the County's Contact person).

3)

'Appoint a Planning Committee, considering for appointment those on the
attached list, and also designate a Commissioner to serve on the
Committee. (This list would satisfy the state policy regarding groups which
need to be represented. The list consists of persons who have agreed to serve
if appointed. It also contains persons who will do an excellent job for the
community in the planning task. I have left blank the Board of
Commissioners representative to the Planning Committee, so that a decision
will need to be made as to which commissioner will serve.

For the planning effort, we anticipate the need for three committee meetings
between the beginning of September, and the end of November.

cc: Social Services Board
