1Z/29/2000 i5:55

7847842276 AB~O

PAGE

FILE COPY

To: Mr. Arne Fennel, Chairman, Board of Con~aissioners
Mr. David Black, Chaiz~an, C~bar~us County Republican

I mm writing this letter ~o inform you both officially that I will
be offering ~y resignation from the Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners at the December 4~, 2000 meeting. Although I will
not be sworn into office in Raleigh until Januaz~ 24~, ~ early
resignation I believe will benefit Robert Freeman, who has been
nominated to replace me. Thi~ will allow Robert to be sworn in at
the same time as Bob Car~th and Richard Suggs. It will also
allow him the opportunity to take part in the annual organization
of the board and at the same time allow the new board to begin
their future work. together .wit~..c~.n=ig~t~..'

It is a bittersweet moment, dfter ten years on the county
=~,.~ission to be writing this letter announcing ~y departure, ~et
at the same time it is exciting as I look toward the opportunities
and challenges that lie ahead in the North Carolina General
Assembly. It has been an honor to represent the precious people
of CAharz~/s County at the local level for so long.

I am confident that Robert Freeman will be an asset to the board
and wish all of yo~ continued suc=ess. I look forward to seeing
yo~ both on December 4~.

Sincerely,

Jeff Barnhart

P.S. - I ask that you both get a copy of this letter to your
respective boards.
