<br />Location/Features
<br /> Cabarrus County, formed in 1792, is located in the southern Piedmont section of North Carolina,
<br />adjacent to Mecklenburg County (see attached map) which includes the City of Charlotte. Cabarrus is
<br />one of the leading industrial counties in the State, with approximately 40% of its labor fome employed in
<br />manu£acmring. The County's major employment sectors include manufacturing (26%), trade (20%),
<br />services (20%) and government (14%). Service-oriented employment has increased substantially in
<br />recent years. In the Fall of 1999, the Concord Mills Mall ($250 million investment) was opened and
<br />includes over 200 retail stores, restaurants, and a 24-screen theater. The Charlotte Motor Speedway is
<br />located in the County and hosts two major NASCAR races and several other racing events each year that
<br />attract a large number of tourists. Concord, the county seat, and Kannapolis are the largest
<br />municipalities in the County with 1999 populations of 50,564 and 37,899, respectively.
