DMA Administrative Letter No. 11-01
Page 4

B. Activities claimable at the.75% enhanced Federal
matching rate:

Hiring new:Medicaid eli~biIity workers or reassigning existing.,
staff(related to the increase of having to' evalUate for Family and
Children's Medicaid eligibility as a result of Work First or NL~d:-C
provisions.)
For example the county could:
Reassig~ ex/sting staff at the local agency.or
Hire temporary or contract workers, or
Hire new workers.

Below is an example of funding an income maintenance caseworker
position' with the 75% enhanced rote:.

A co~ty has 2 positions costing $45,000 each. Usually the councfs
share at 50% FFP would be $22,500 for each caseworker. However,
if the county assi~ the positions to be reimbursed at the 75%
enhanced rate the county may have enough county appropriated.
money to fund another position at the normal 50% FFP.

The county could subtract the 50% normal FFP also the 25%
enhanced funding (75% minus 50% = 25%) to get the total of the
cpunty's share.

545,000
-522,500
-11,250
=511,250

(50%) Regular FFP
(25%) Additional FFP fi:om 1931 allocation
(25%) county share of caseworker salary

This is a sa,)ings orS11,250 from the original county appropriation
for the position. If this were done with two positions the counO
savings would be $22,500. This is enough to fund a third position at
the regular 50%.FFP rate.

New equipment for caseworkers cannot be claimed for
reimbursement.

Once the allocation is spent the county will no longer have this
enhanced federal rear.thing for these positions.
