Distributed gifts to residents in various facilities on Valentine's Day. 10. Members attended Creative Interventions In Dementia Care Conference sponsored by the Centralina Area Agency on Aging. COMMITTEE STRENGTHS 1. Good working relationship with the staff and facility administrators. 2. Strong commitment and dedication on the part of those active on the committee. 3. Good working relationship with regional Ombudsman. 4. Excellent rapport with residents and families during facility visits and follow up on concerns and issues. 5. Active in the community through other volunteer opportunities in churches and civic groups. COMMITTEE CHALLENGES 1. Lack of enough committee members. Need for appointments in a timely manner who wish to be trained quickly and begm their duties. 2. Lack of participation of some committee members due to lack of commitment, lack of interest or time, or lack of experience. 3. Staff'mg turnover and lack of tr',fining in facilities. 4. Limited public awareness of the committee and their function. 5. Lack of awareness in the community about adult care homes. COMMITTEE SUPPORT Committee members are trained and supported by the Ombudsman progran~ of the Centralina Council of Governments, Area Agency on Aging, Region F. Local back-up support is provided by the Cabarrus County Senior Services Department. The committee appreciates their help and assistance throughout the year.
