ICABARRIJS COUNIYI

~ORTH CAROtlNA

Memo

To: Board of Commissioners
From: John D. Day, Deputy County Manager(..?~TM
Date: March9, 1999
/
Re: Year 2000 Readiness Audit

As the year 2000 approaches, county staff members have been assessing the
potential effect of the so-called "Y2K bug" on equipment, operations and
business partners.

Staff members have been in the Y2K mitigation process for over two years,
including replacement of all major software applications and phasing out of the
mainframe computer.

To ensure nothing has been overlooked, that contingency plans are adequate
and to preserve public confidence, it is important to retain a third party to
complete a Y2K readiness audit.

I have solicited audit proposals from two companies with expertise in this field. I
recommend the hiring of Keane, Inc. to perform such an audit of Cabarrus
County government. The estimated cost of $24,000 is budgeted in the County
Manager's budget.

Please contact me if you have any questions on this matter.

Office of the County Manager

P. 0 Box 707 · Concord.
