You may be also asking yourself, as I have been,
what if something like this happened in my county?

In that light, I would strongly encourage yon to place on the agenda of your next
Commissioners me, ting an item calling for the county to take the lead in organizing a task
force to address the topic of school violence. Membership on the task force could consist
of the school superintendent, law enforcement, emcrgency medical personnel, mental
health, and whomever else you would want involved. P~rhaps a commissioner or county
manager could chair the task force.

The task force should focus on prevention and pl~ning for the handling of any Colorado
type incident.

Wc now know that no county is immune from such an incident, and it is the local officials
who must react to such tragic and emotionally charged situations.

Piedmont staffwill help in any way possiblc.

Sincerely,

Robert C. Lorish, Ed.D.
Area Director
