Chapter 2 <br /> <br />Survey Results <br /> <br />Executive Summary <br /> <br />Travel surveys were conducted in the Concord/Kannapolis, North Carolina area between <br />October 1998 and Sanuary 1999. Four surveys were conducted to obtain background <br />information from the community. This information will assist in formulating scheduled transit <br />options and assessing an overall level of interest in and need for such services. The following <br />are highlights from the survey results. Detailed information about the findings from each <br />survey is provided in the body of the report. <br /> <br />Cities of Concord/Kannapolis Employee Survey/359 respondents~ <br /> <br />The overwhelming majority (79%) has two or more employees per household. <br />99_ % have available transportation. ~ <br /> <br />94% drive alone to work ~66% every day). <br /> <br />The three highest potential uses for public transportation: <br /> <br />Work 23 % <br />Recreation 19 % <br />Shopping 17% <br />Total 59 % <br /> <br />Two-thirds of the survey respondents said that they would use the service with varying degrees <br /> of frequency if it were available. <br /> <br />No surveyed city employees use Department of Social Services/Aging services. <br /> <br />93 persons said they could use bus service to go outside the area (e.g. Concord Mills, <br /> Downtown Charlotte, University City). Two-thirds said that they would use the bus for <br /> more than one purpose. <br /> <br />Work arrival times clearly vary. When people 'arrive' is not necessarily when their scheduled <br /> work day begins. <br /> <br />86% travel less than 10 miles to work. <br /> <br /> <br />
