How Often?

Once a week 26 14.5%
2 times a week 27 15.1%
3 or more times a week 62 34.6%
Once a month or less 47 26.3%
~lan~) 17 9.5 %

The frequency of use for the social service agency transportation is notably high. Over 64 %
of the respondents use these services at least on a weekly basis. Moreover, within that group,
most of the respondents are, in fact, using these services three or more times a
week--indicating the importance of transit services to this age group.

Do you travel to a job or other activities such as medical appointments outside of the
immediate area and would you use public transportation to conunute there?

Salisbu~ VA Hospital 16
Bowman 1
Charlotte/Carolinas Med. Those who did respond indicate that Charlotte and the Medical
Center/Presbyterian Hospital would be their primary destinations if public transportation
services were available. It is interesting to note overall that 77 respondents (43%) provide a
favorable response to potential transit use. This suggests that existing demand responsive
services do not necessarily satisfy the full transportation demand, and that mode shift is
possible perhaps at a lower cost.

When you travel to work or elsewhere, how many miles do you routinely travel one-way
to your destination?

0-5 26 24.8%
5-10 63 60.0%

Gunnett Fleming
ENGINEERS AND PLANNERS

25
