MEMO
IC SARRUS COUNTYI
N OllTII CAItOtiNA

TO: Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
FROM: Michael L. Murphy
DATE: August 20, 1999

SUBJECT: RECLASSIFICATION OF NUTRITION SITE SUPERVISOR
FOR KANNAPOLIS LUNCH PLUS CLUB PROGRAM
( POSITION NUMBER: 01-5750-102-001 )

This part-time position is currently occupied by Sharon Williams. Sharon has occupied this position for
over five years and was a key component of the successful transition that we experienced when we
relocated our two Kannapolis programs to the Cannon Memorial YMCA in January. Since then she has
taken on additional responsibilities that include:

· the supervision of one part-time staff (Department of Aging), one part-time staff
(YMCA), five part-time staff( Senior Aides assigned to work for our Lunch Plus Club
program. )

· participation increased from a total enrollment of 94 to approximately 1,000 and an average
daily attendance from 60 to 225-250.

· this location now serves over 50% of the total number of meals for our five site Lunch Plus
Club program.

· administrative / reporting responsibilities of Rowan County participants as well as Cabarrus
County participants ( twice the paper-work )

· coordination of programs / facilities with YMCA staff.

Due to the increase in responsibilities and / or workload over the past several months, I respectfully
request approval &this request to reclassify this position from Nutrition Site Supervisor ( Salary Grade
54-5-2 ) to Nutrition Site Coordinator ( Salary Grade 55-5-2 ). This change represents a total increase in
salary of $468.00. The funding for this reclassification is already included in our FY'2000 budget.

I have discussed this reclassification with Mr. Don Moorhead and he agreed that this position has changed
and the responsibilities have increased substantially and justify such action. We would have submitted
this request with the FY'2000 budget request except none of us expected the overwhelming response that
we received last spring in this program. Our budget preparation process was complete before we had all
of the data concerning this program.

Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

................................... ....................................
Department of Agin9

RO.
