"Bill" Ross was elected by the Democratic Party and appointed by the <br />Cabarrus County Commissioners to fill the vacancy of Register of Deeds here in <br />Cabarrus County. He was sworn in on June 1, 1987. <br /> <br />He came to the county from the newspaper business, where he was a printer, sports <br />editor, managing editor and advertising executive for The Concord Tribune and <br />Kannapolis Independent. <br /> <br />Bill served as a personnel sergeant in the United States Air Force and completed <br />the USAF Technical School at Arizona State College at Tempe, Arizona. <br />The Cabarrus County Register of Deeds Office was the first in the state to have all <br />deputies, assistants and Register to meet the certification standards established <br />by The North Carolina Association of Registers of Deeds and The North Carolina <br />Institute of Government at UNC-Chapel Hill. <br /> <br />While serving as Register of Deeds, he was elected to every office in the North <br />Carolina Association of Register of Deeds, including President. He also received <br />the Outstanding Register of Deeds Award from the North Carolina Association of <br />County Commissioners. <br /> <br />He is a native of Cabarrus County and is married to the former Helen Linker. Bill <br />and 'Helen have three children. Lane of Hickory, Lynne Cochran of Concord and Todd <br />of Harrisburg and seven grandchildren. <br /> <br /> <br />
