Day, Deputy County Manage~n,/' <br />December 7, 1999 t" <br />County Telecommunications <br /> <br />At the Commissioners work session November 13th an information systems and <br />telecommunications study performed by RSM McGladrey, Inc. was presented. This <br />study was perfmmed in response to continued problems with the current telephone <br />system, which has been in use for over ten years. <br /> <br />The findings indicate the problems experienced with the current system result from old <br />technology and inadequate capacity. Replacement is the only means of problem <br />resolution. <br /> <br />The cost of replacement is estimated to be from $450,000 to $500,000. Monthly savings <br />in service costs resulting from a new telephone system (configured as recommended by <br />McGladrey) will pay for the replacement system in about five years. I recommend we <br />pursue this course. <br /> <br />I request funding to hire McGladrey to prepare bid specifications for a county <br />telecommunications system, assist in the bid process and review proposals received. The <br />cost for these services will not exceed $23,000.
