From:
Date:

Sherri M. Barnhardt, Purchasing Agent
_rda A. Assistant Parks and Recreation Director
Strong,

Wednesday, December ~10, 1997

Subject: Playground Bid

After reviewing the bids from Basnight and Associates, Play USA and Peggs
Recreation and Architectural Products, ! would recommend Basnight and
Associates bid of $651,980.00, the Iow bid by $162,530.00. Cabarrus
County Parks and Recreation has $~97,7~8.00 and the School System has
$160,000.00 allocated for this project making a total of $657,7~8.00.

Basnight and Associates has been awarded the previous six playground and
installation bids from the Parks and Recreation Department. All projects
have proved to meet expectations. In addition, Don Clickner, Facilities,
Operations and Construction Director for Cabarrus County Schools, has
worked with Cobie Bowles, Basnight and Associates Sales Associate on
numerous projects and consultations. He too has been very pleased with the
workmanship of the recommended company.

The scope of the bid includes play equipment, surfacing, drainage, grading,
ADA requirements and installation. In addition, some existing equipment will
be moved to a better location or removed due to non-compliance of CPSC
Guidelines*. The completed project will provide a very effective playground
system at Bethel, Beverly Hills, Coltrane Webb, Harrisburg, Long Preschool,
Mt Pleasant, R. Brown McAIlister, Royal Oaks, W.R. Odell and Wolf Meadow
Schools.

* Consumer Product Safety Commission

pc: Steve L. Little, Director
