STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING <br />BE'FWEEN <br />THE CABARRUS SENIOR CENTER <br />AND THE <br /> AMERICAN RED CROSS <br /> <br />I. The Amedcan Red Cross has a legal and moral responsibility to provide assistance to the <br /> victims of disaster in this community as set forth by U. S. Congress. The purpose of this <br /> agreement is to provide the facilities for the mass sheltering of persons dudng a disaster <br /> or for those who may need temporary housing as a result of a disaster. <br /> <br />II. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS AGREES: <br /> <br />1. To provide personnel for the supervision and operation of the shelter. <br />2. To train selected personnel with the Cabarrus County Senior Center in Mass Care <br /> as requested. <br />3. To identify the facility as an American Red Cross shelter when it is opened and remove <br /> identification when the shelter is closed. <br />4. To replace or reimburse for food or other items used by the American Red Cross <br /> while the shelter is in operation. <br />5. To use only those designated areas agreed to at the time the shelter is opened. <br />6. To arrange for or reimburse for cleaning the building when the shelter is closed. <br />7. To provide a list of Amedcan Red Cross officials authorized to request the opening <br /> of a shelter. (Attachment) <br /> <br />III. THE CABARRUS COUNTY SENIOR CENTER AGREES: <br /> <br />1. To permit, upon request of the American Red Cross, the use of The Cabarrus County <br /> Senior Center as a shelter. <br />2. To designate staff members to represent The Cabarrus County Senior Center <br /> as shelter staff is desired. <br />3. To open the shelter day or night when requested by the American Red Cross. <br /> <br />IV. <br /> <br />BOTH THE CABARRIS COUNTY SENIOR CENTER AND THE <br />AMERICAN RED CROSS AGREES: <br /> <br /> 1. That a joint inspection will be made of the I~uildings when ~e shelter is opened and <br /> again when closing. Any unusual conditions will be reported in writing to both parties. <br />2. Food or supplies purchased by the Cabarrus County Senior Center and in their <br /> stock at the time of disaster can be used by the American Red Cress and the American <br /> Red Cross will pay for the food or supplies used, with accurate account of the food and <br /> supplies being kept by the Shelter Manager. <br />3. Both agreeto update and review existing agreements as requested. <br /> <br /> <br />
