sCabarrus County heriff's Department Robert M. Canaday, Sheriff ON THE RETIREMENT OF ROBERT L. MATTOX, SERGEANT CABARRUS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE EFFECTIVE DATE OF RETIREMENT 2-28-98 Robert Mattox began his career with the Cabarms County Sheriff's Office on September 15, 1972. Prior to that time he had served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp. Robert is a life hmg Cabarrus County resident and is married to the former Linda Thurber. Robert began work at the Sheriff's Off'ice as a Jail Officer, moved to the patrol division where he worked for a number of years and then went to the hospital division and when the courthouse security division was implemented he took over leadership of the combined Bailiff and Courthouse security divisions. In addition to other duties with the department, Robert has served as the only Hazardous Device Technician in Cabarrus Cotmty for 19 yea?s. While se,wing as a Deputy Sheriff he a!so served as a member of the North Carolina Army National Guard where he retired after 21 years of se.'":ice. Robert holds and Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and is a member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. He has also completed well over 11300 hours of specialized training in law enforcement related subjects. Robert Mattox has been an asset to the Sheriff's Office and the criminal justice agencies of Cabarrus County and the state for a lot of years. Robert plans to remain on our auxiliary staff and be available for duty when needed, especially in the area of hazardous device work until we get other officers trained in this field. Robert has served the citizens of Cabarrus County in an exemplary manner for over 26 years, we will miss him being around on a daily basis but wish him well in his future endeavors. P.O.
