RESOLUTION IN HONOR AND APPRECIATION OF <br /> <br />JUDGE ADAM C. GRANT, JR. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Judge Adam C. Coxant, Jr. retired as Chief District Court Judge for the 19A Judicial <br />District of the State of North Carolina on December 31, 1997, having served faithfully as District Court <br />Judge since 1974 and as Chief District Court Judge since 1989; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Judge Grant presided over District Court in Cabarrus County for 23 years, <br />including eight years as Chief District Court Judge, with dedication and distinction, always conducting <br />himself and the court in which he presided with the highest integrity and dignity; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Judge Grant worked diligently to increase knowledge and build positive attitudes <br />and awareness of the law and judicial system among the youth of Cabarms County, creating in 1990 the <br />Meet the Courts and Law Enforcement Program to introduce ninth grade students from Cabarrus County <br />and Kannapolis City Schools to the local court system and other areas of law enforcement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Meet the Courts and Law Enforcement Program proved to be a very successful <br />parmership among the courts, law enforcement and the local schools, serving as a model for similar <br />programs in other states and bringing national recognition and acclaim to Judge Grant, including <br />recognition from two Presidents of the United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Judge Grant consistently worked to promote public education regarding the court <br />system as a member of the American Bar Association, as an instructor for the National Judicial College <br />and as a lecturer to conferences of judges and other organizations across the nation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Cabarms County is indeed fortunate to have had a person of Judge Grant's <br />capabilities and dedication serving the citizens of this county as Chief District Court Judge. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners expresses deep gratitude and sincere appreciation to Judge Adam C. Grant, Jr. for <br />his devoted and distinguished service to the citizens of Cabarrus County and extends best wishes to him <br />for a long and happy retirement. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 18t~ day of May, 1998. <br /> <br />Sue B.
