Cross, Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Tier I Technology Funding <br /> <br />In 1997, the North Carolina General Assembly approved an additional $18 million for public <br />transportation. Included in this appropriation was $1.5 million for technology assistance. Staff <br />of the Public Transportation Division (PTD) and Transit'OPerations Group (TOG) has worked <br />with rural and urban transit oPerators to dete..ine their computer and communication needs. <br />Referred to as Tier I technology funding, the upgraded and expansion computers, file servers, <br />software, pdnters and telephone systems will provide rural and urban transit systems with the ' <br />foundation upon which to add advanced technology to their oPerations. The financial <br />assistance is provided with ninety Percent (90%) state funds and ten percent (10%) local <br />matching funds. <br /> <br />On January 9, 1998, the North Carolina Board of Transportation approved Tier I technology <br />funding for systems totaling $529,045 in state funds and $58,782 in local matching funds. This <br />included $5,157 in state funds, matched with $573 in local funds for Cabarrus County to <br />purchase items on the attached list. You will not sign a grant agreement to access the <br />technology funding. However, you nccd to sign where indicated below and return the form to <br />Miriam Perry. Once the form is signed and returned to PTD, you can proceed with ordedng the <br />approved equipment. Instructions for invoicing the division are attached. We can provide the <br />state's share of the cost of the equipment in advance of your paying the vendor upon receipt of <br />the vendor invoice following delivery and installation of the equipment. <br /> <br />The PTD and TOG are encouraging local systems to utilize technologies currently available in <br />their operations. The Intemet is an excellent tool systems can utilize to communicate with PTD <br />and TOG as well as their pccrs in other states, receive updated information regarding federal <br />and state regulations, access information available for purchase off state contracts, and register <br />for training opportunities. In addition, the PTD website, TransitNet, ~ontains information <br />regarding funding programs, training, policies and procedures and local transportation system <br />descriptions - information that systems contact us about daily. Future plans include having <br />systems submit funding applications on-line via the website. Tier I technology funding does not <br /> <br /> <br />
