Bonds
Clerk to the Board
P.O. Box 707
Concord, NC 28026-0707

Dear Ms. Bonds:

For the past several years the Cabarrus County Commissioners have been asked to declare the fourth Saturday
in September as Hunting and Fishing Day in Cabarrus County. On behalf of the N.C. Wildlife Federation and
the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, I am writing to ask that this issue be included on the agenda for the
upcoming Commission meeting so that they might consider issuing a, similar proclamation this year.

The N.C. Wildlife Federation bele'lVeS that the positive roles of the sporting public should not go unrecognized.
Sportsmen and women provide revenues to protect and enhance fish and wildlife populations and to improve
the quality of wildlife habitat In addition, we think that the strong conservation ethic among mae sportsmen and
women should not be ignored but should be shared and that is why we strongly support this year's theme -- "A
Natural Invitation to Step Outsld¢."

Annually, North Carolina's hunters and anglers contribute over $20 milhon to the N.C. Wildlife Resources
Commission's conservation programs. These programs have benefitted hundreds of wildlife and fish species,
~om deer, quail, wild turkey, striped bass and brook trout to otters, bald eagles, alligators and songbirds -- fish
and wildlife that all North Carolinians can enjoy and appreciate.

Enclosed is a sample proclamation for Hunting and Fishing Day and a press release to help inform your
commissioners of the value of hunting and fishing to the citizens of your county. I have also included a postcard
for you to remm and let us know if your county will be recognizing September 26, 1998 as Hunting and Fishing
Day. Thank you for this opportunity to recognize an important piece of our national and state heritage. If we
can be of assistance, please contact Lisa West at (919) 833-1923.

Sincerely,

Dale Mosteller, President
North Carolina Wildlife Federation

/lgw
Enclosures

printed on recycled paper
