TO: Frank Clifton, County Manag
FROM: Jim Cook, Social Services Dir~_~/
DATE: 10-12-98
SUBJECT: Budget Amendment Request

I am asking that the Board of Commissioners consider the enclosed budget
amendment request at its October 19 meeting. This amendment would add 25 part-time'
in-home aide positions to our budget for the CAP Program. Revenues would offset
expenses completely.

As the enclosed summary reflects, the County was granted 35 more CAP Program
client "slots" this year than was anticipated at the time our budget was prepared. The
program is growing at a net increase of three clients per month. Currently, 20 older and
disabled adults and their families are on our waiting list, as we do not have enough in-
home aide positions budgeted to serve them. In order to operate the program effectively,
the 25 positions requested is the minimum number needed prior to the end of this budget
year.

Please let me know of any additional information that may be needed.

Thank you.

Department of Social Services
1303 South Cannon Blvd. Kannapolis, NC 28083 (704)939-1400
