November 2, 1998 Mr. Frank Clifton County Manager Cabarms County 65 Church Street SE Concord, NC 28025 (704) 788-8100 (704) 788-8110 FAX Re: Life Center Construction Dear Mr. Clifton: I am writing to request a spot on the agenda of the 16 November 1998 meeting of the County Commissioners to discuss the conclusion of the Life Center Fund Raising and the beginning of the construction for the Cokrane Life Center. As you can see from our attached unaudited budget, the Capital Campaign has raised a total of appro.,dmately $1,462,000.00. However, due to the current great demand for builders, construction costs are higher than anticipated. The building committee met with the architects and builder to review all aspects of the specifications in an effort to reduce costs. Working with a comprehensive listing of all the building components several items were adjusted which reduced the cost of the building by approximately $100,000.00. After this effort total costs for construction, including a prudent contingency, total approximately $1,822,000.00. This leaves a shortfall of approximately $360,000.00. We would like to ask the County of assistance in either one of two ways. First, a grant that would match dollar for dollar any new monies raised up to a total grant by the County of $180,000.00. The monies raised and the matching grant would then total $ 360,000.00, or; Second, the County would agree to loan the Life Center the monies necessary to finish construction of the facility and then allow the Program to repay the County over an extended period.
