Phase II
Implementation of Integrated
Communications on Fiber Network

Executive Overview

The implementation of Phase II will provide electronics and
software to enable the sites connected in Phase I to participate in
multiple internal and external integrated communications.

A myriad of in-county communications will be supported,
including: e-mail for students and teachers, student conferences
and shared projects across schools, shared staff development and
departmental meetings, and Planetarium utilization at each school
site. Additionally, we will be able to maintain and update textbook
inventories, access human resources information, and transfer files
and documents. In the future, we could obtain HVAC system status
reports and even receive images from security cameras installed at
school sites.

External utilization includes access to Intemet at each site
and, through Intemet, access to local and regional colleges and
universities, and to the state library system. Once the system is
implemented, applications to support learning will be limited only
by our imagination and time.

The implementation of this robust wide area network is
dependent upon the completion of Phase I. Installation of
software to accommodate the wide range of applications will be
initiated immediately following phase I with an anticipated
completion by May 1, 1999.
