As you
know, the Cabarrus County Board of Education has immediate plans to construct a new school
on the present Winecoff athletic ballfields. There will be no available athletic fields at Winecoff
School until the Spring of 1999.

In response to the approved Cabarrus County Matching Grant project at Winecoff
Elementary School, the following project has been proposed to light the present softball field at
Northwest Cabarrus High School. This ballfield will be Winecoff Youth League "home field"
during the next several years. On January 23, 1997, the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation
Commission recommended to install the new ballfield lights on another school site (potentially at
Northwest Cabarrus High School). David Austin, President of the Winecoff Youth League, has
spoken with his board and with other members of the Winecoff Youth League in regard to the
Matching Incentive Grant Lighting Project. It is an unanimous decision to move the lights to
Northwest Cabarrus High School softball field. Mr. Ken Cartrell, Principal at Northwest
Cabarrus High School, was very receptive to the idea of the Winecoff Youth League lighting the
Northwest Cabarrus softball field.

Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department plans are to provide alternative
practices and game sites until the development of new athletic fields at the new Winecoff
Elementary School. The following are proposed practice and/or game sites for the Winecoff
Youth League: Concord McAllister; Northwest Cabarrus High, Frank Liske Park, Bakers Creek
Park and Royal Oaks Elementary School.
