Rowland, Tax Administrator

March 11, 1997

Relief from collecting taxes on Classified Motor Vehicles

NCGS 105-373 (h) The board of county commissioners may, in its
discretion, relieve the tax collector of the charge of taxes on classified
motor vehicles listed pursuant to G.S. 105-330.3(a)(1) that are one year or
more past due when it appears to the board that the taxes are uncollectible.
This relief, when granted, shall include municipal special district taxes
charged to the collector.

It is hereby requested that the Board of County Commissioners relieve the Tax Collector
of the above charges effective immediately, and for each subsequent year that this type
delinquency occurs.

For your information the amount of taxes to be relieved for 1994 is $49,237.83 and for
1995 is $77,578.36.

We still may collect taxes on these outstanding bills. As you are probably aware, the
Department of Motor Vehicles will not allow you to renew registration unless your
property taxes are paid. The majority of these past due taxes simply represent taxpayers
that have moved out of the state.

Office of Tax Administrator

P.
