FROM TO 9889820 <br /> <br />at the drmlation desk to greet them. On ~ day, Lo,~se Bo~ Setfl~ bad already served <br />the people of Kannapoli~ through her wcrk in a vaxiety ofh'braties for 45 years. For most of <br />those years, Mrs. Serdemeyer was bead ~ibrarian of the el~ YMCA Laxaty which was located <br />in the old Karmapolis YMCA building and which essential~ served as the public library of <br />Katmapolis. By I980, that facility bad b~:ome too small to adequately serve a growing <br />community.. In Yuly, 1985 Cabarrus Co:.mIy e~ablished a county l/brary system w/th Kant~polis <br />to be the s/re of/tS first brand~ h~. On tha: date, Mrs. Settles~Ter became the ~'st member <br />of the staffofthe new ~ system. She played an/~i~ role/a the plam~g o£th~ new <br />library and helped to select much of the opening day book collection. When the h'brary opened, <br />she was the head of circulation, a position in which she would assist every p~h-vn who used the <br />new h'brary. DurLng the h'brary's first decade of operation, more than a rm_'lllon books were <br />checked out by Mrs. Settlemeyer and he~ sta~. In her position sic was able to help many people <br />gsln knowledge, to enjoy litentture, to learn to read and to help many of them achieve their <br />dreams. Now as the library enters a second d~cad~, Mrs. Settlerneyer has reluctantly closed the <br />book on a library career which kas spanr, ed 57 years and touched the lives of thousands of <br />Cabarrus CounT residents. <br /> <br />We axe pleased to honor her this eve~;~& not only for her dozett years as an employee of <br />Cabarrus County but also for her nearly fix decades of devotion to the very democratic idea of <br />h'braries and public h'orafies in parliculat While she will be missed at the cirtmlation desk and by <br />both h'bntry patrons and bet oo-workers, the legacy of her ser~ioe will endure as long as the <br />library continues to ,serve the citizens of Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />We tha~nk you for ali you have done for as.
