Insurance Benefits <br /> <br />The County purchases basic group health and life insurance benefits for: <br /> <br />(b) <br /> <br />current full-time employees -- with coverage beginning the first day <br />of the month after a full month of employment and ending on the last <br />day of the month when separation occurs, and <br />retirees from County service under the North Carolina Local <br />Goverr~ental Employees' Retirement System subject to the <br />requirements listed under Schedule"A" of Article VI, Section 6 of <br />this ordinance -- with coverage continuing from their last <br />employment date until they become eligible for Medicare (or reach <br />the age where they would have had such benefits if they had been <br />qualified for Social Security). <br /> <br />Optional group health and life insurance programs are available through payroll <br />deduction for full-time employees. <br /> <br />Retirees covered under (b) may purchase dependent health coverage through a <br />County group plan. Changes in number of dependents covered may only occur at an <br />annual open enrollment or when there is a qualifying event, as defined for <br />Internal Revenue Service Code Section 125 purposes. Retirees that earned annual <br />leave under Schedule B, while actively employed with the County, may only <br />purchase health insurance coverage for themselves and their eligible dependents <br />to the extent mandated by the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Act (COBRA). Other <br />optional or supplemental County sponsored health and life insurance programs will <br />not be available to retirees. <br /> <br /> RETIREMENT INCENTIVE PLAN <br /> for <br />Cabarrus County Employees Receiving Longevity Payments <br />As of July 1, 1997 <br /> <br />PURPOSE: To encourage eligible employees to consider an accelerated regular or <br />early retirement because of the proposed financial incentives. <br /> <br />ELEMENTS OF THE PLAN: <br /> <br />Employees qualified to receive full retirement benefits under the North <br />Carolina Local Goverr~ental Employees' Retirement System choosing to <br />retire during the plan's time limit, shall he eligible to receive the <br />equivalent of one (1) full year of longevity payments. <br /> <br /> <br />
