Proposed Change <br /> July 1, 1997 <br /> <br />(n) Pay Plan. A listing by grade and step of all approved hiring, intermediate and <br /> maximum rates of pay authorized by the Board of Commissioner for various <br /> position classifications of County Government. <br />(o) Pay Plan Adiustment. The raising or lowering of the salary grade for one or more <br /> classes of positions within the classification plan. <br />(p) Position. A group of current duties and responsibilities, assigned by a competent <br /> authority, requiring the full or part-time employment of one person. The <br /> existence of a position or its identity does not depend upon its being occupied by <br /> an employee. <br />(q) Probationary_ Employee. A person appointed to a permanent position who has not <br /> yet completed the probationary period. (See Article IV, Section 10.) <br />(r) Probationary Period. The required period of time an employee serves upon <br /> entering County service before obtaining permanent status, after which no adverse <br /> action or disciplinary action may be taken unless in accordance with Article VII <br /> of this Ordinance. <br />(s) Promotion. The reassignment of an employee to an existing vacant position in <br /> County service having a higher salary grade than the position from which the <br /> reassignment is made. <br />(t) Reclassification. The reassignment of an existing position from one class to <br /> another, based on changes in job content such as duty, difficulty, required skill <br /> and responsibility of the work perfoimed. <br />(u) Regular Employee. An employee in a regular position who has completed at <br /> least six (6) months satisfactory County service, or in the case of law enforcement <br /> officers, twelve (12) months, and has been approved for continuing employment <br /> by the department head and the appointing authority. <br />(v) Regular Position. A position approved by the Board of Commissioners in which <br /> the duties and responsibilities are required on a continuous and annually recurring <br /> basis, requiring either the full-time or part-time employment of an individual. <br />(w) Salary Grade. The range of pay to which all sufficiently comparable positions are <br /> assigned. <br />(x) Salary Range. The hiring, intermediate and maximum salary for a given <br /> classification. <br />(y) Salary Schedule. A schedule of hiring, inteimediate, and maximum rates of pay <br /> for each class of positions. <br />(z) State Personnel Act Employee. An employee of the Department of Social <br /> Services, Department of Public Health, Department of Mental Health or Office of <br /> Emergency Management receiving federal grant-in-aid funds subject to the State <br /> Persomlel Act. <br />(aa) Temporary Employee. A person appointed to serve in a position for a limited <br /> duration, usually not to exceed one year. <br />(bb) Transfer.
