WEATHERIZATION / HOUSING AND HOME IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM <br />CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />The Cabarrus County Weatherization / Housing and Home Improvement Program is <br />an on-going program within the Cabarrus County Department of Aging. This <br />program has developed a relationship with several other agencies and/or <br />organizations in an effort to eliminate duplication of services, maximize the quality <br />and quantity of services delivered to the frail elderly and disabled residents of <br />Cabarrus .County, better utilize volunteer support and increase community <br />involvement while enhancing the cost effectiveness 5f the overall program and <br />expanding our local service delivery scope to include applicants that have legitimate <br />needs yet fail 'to qualify for funding from specific project funds due to a technical <br />requirement. <br /> <br />We have proven to be extremely successful in our efforts to max/rnize the scope of <br />service delivery while utilizing existing resources. In other words, to get the most <br />bang for our buck. Over the past year we have worked directly with several other <br />county depm~m~ents, local city departments, local non-profit organizations, church <br />organizations, a local prison unit, the Employment Security Commission, Charlotte <br />Rehab Center, the AARP and our local Council on Aging. We have even <br />established an intergenerational program with a local middle school as part of an <br />on-going program to involve their 6th grade students in a community support project <br />that will expand thek understanding and awareness of the needs of older adults. <br />(They assisted in caulking and insulating homes for our Weatherization Program.) <br />We utilize the resources of our County Planning Dept., Dept. of Social Services, <br />Health Dept., Home Health Dept., all local City Planning Depts.', the City of <br />Concord Community Development Dept., the North Carolina and Cabarrus County <br />Baptist Men's Association, Cabarms County Lutheran Brotherhood, University of <br />N.C. at Charlotte Gerontology Class, Cabarrus County Cooperative Christian <br />Ministry, our local AARP, the Cabarrus County Council on Aging and our local <br />prison unit. The resources provided range from referrals, in-k/nd contributions of <br />materials and supplies, funding for projects that fail to qualify for standard <br />programs, to manpower and technical assistance for specific projects. Specific <br />projects. Several joint projects allows usto provide the maximum service to a local <br />e/t/zen within the I/mits of our standards but allows other agencies / organizations to <br />provide additional services that compliment and/or enhance our efforts, thus <br />maximizing the service received by our client. <br /> <br /> <br />
