Ciit~on, Jr., County Manager <br /> <br />RE: Follow-Up to Fair Ground Lease Issue <br /> <br />At the last Board meeting (7/21/97), Item #8 under the Consent Agenda was deferred to allow <br />additional discussion with Fair Board members to occur. During that deferral, I was able to gather <br />more information relative to the Fair's operations and financial status. <br /> <br />Enclosed please find: <br /> <br />2. <br />3. <br />4. <br /> <br />List of Current Fair Board Members <br />Financial Information (current and historical) <br />Plat of Impacted Properties <br />Report -Cooperative Extension Service Involvement in Annual Fair <br /> <br />Summarizing: <br />The new Human Services Center in Kannapolis will be available in the spring of 1998 to house Social <br />Services and the Health Department. Options are being pursued to create suitable housing options <br />for Extension Services (and associated agencies) and Emergency Management. <br /> <br />Staffis working on a phasing plan to relocate the County vehicle maintenance functions near the new <br />General Services/Animal Shelter facility. Discussions are underway with the school system to <br />relocate its vehicle maintenance operations. The County owned parcel could be listed for sale by the <br />end of 1997 (with a reservation on the land leased to the Fair timed to the termination of the lease <br />upon proper notice). <br /> <br />The Fair's I 1.910 acres would remain as a single parcel. The County would be selling the 4.754 acre <br />parcel at the comer of 601/Cabarms Avenue, the 12.122 acre site leased to the Fair. The Board of <br />Education owns a 10.534 acre site as described above. <br /> <br />The County's lease agreement with the Fair Board requires a one-year notice to terminate. Due to <br />timing of the annualS'Fair dates in September each year, it is recommended that the lease between the <br />Coun _ty and the Fair be terminated effective October 1, 1998.
