CABARRUS HEALTH ALLIANCE <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Memorandum <br /> <br /> Cabarrus County Commissioners <br /> <br /> October 13, 1997 <br /> Glenda Kezia~, Child Fatality Prevention Team Cha~mmn <br /> 1996 Child Fatality Prevention Report <br /> <br />The Cabarrus County Child Fatality Prevention Team, enacted by North Carolina Law in 1991 <br />and initiated in Cabarrus County February 1994, is a multi disciplinary group composed of a <br />Medical Examiner and representatives of pediatricians, law enforcement, mental health, <br />education, social work, public health and the public. This team meets quarterly to review child <br />fatality cases, including those related to abuse and neglect. The team's purpose is to prevent <br />furore deaths by identifying gaps in systems, policies, and laws that may contribute to child <br />fatalities, to make recommendations for improvements and remedies, and to help implement <br />selected recommendations, in hope that these efforts will improve the lives of all children in <br />Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Attached is a graphic display of the number and cases of deaths amOng Cabarrus County children <br />1996.
