CABARRUS COUNTY <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United Way of Central Carolinas serves people who live or work in <br />Cabarms, Mecklenburg, and Union Counties; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United Way of Central Carolinas assists 64 human service agencies in <br />Union, Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these 64 agencies provide a wide range of services including emergency aid; <br />emergency shelter; education and training for jobs; health care, rehabilitation, counseling, and <br />residential programs for the elderly and disabled; advocacy to reduce violence and teen pregnancies; <br />low income housing preservation and development; advocacy and services for children including early <br />childhood development and parenting classes; and information and referral services; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, residents need these agencies to provide the wide range of services that <br />government does not and cannot provide directly; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 1998 campaign raised $26.5 million representing an almost $5 million <br />increase from the total raised during the previous campaign; and <br /> <br /> WFIEREAS, community volunteers chaired the United Way of the Central Carolinas <br />fundraising efforts during the 1998 campaign; and, <br /> <br /> WltEREAS, the United Way of Central Carolinas Council of Agency Executives recognizes <br />with gratitude the outstanding fundraising efforts of these individuals. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners call citizens to action in joining to acknowledge the leadership of <br /> <br />Edward K. Prewitt, Jr. <br /> <br />in the historical 1998 United Way of Central Carolinas Campaign. <br /> <br />This the 19th day of November, 1997. <br /> <br />Chair, Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br /> <br />
