NO~t[~ CA~t6[IftA

Memo

To: Board of Commissioners ~
From: John Day, Deputy County Manage
Date: December 10,1997
Re: Governmental Center Renovations

The FY 98 Budget included appropriations totaling $147,000 for renovations to the
second floor of the Governmental Center. The original scope of the project consisted of.'
1. Enclosing the outdoor terrace area to create two conference rooms.
2. Constructing storefront-type glass walls at the entrances to the County Manager's
Office and the Finance Department.
3. Minor renovations to the reception area in the Development Services Department
office.

Because of growth in the Development Services staff, steadily increasing public traffic
and minor departmental reorganization, it was necessary to increase the scope of the
project to include a comprehensive renovation that will meet both current and short term
(5 years) future needs.

Bids for this project were received from five companies and opened December 4th. The
bids ranged from $170,900 to $258,000. Staff recommends award of the construction
contract to the low bidder, Liles Construction. A bid tabulation is attached.

Other components of the project cost include a $I0,000 contingency and $17,000 for
architect fees (estimated).

If you would like to see the blueprints for this project you may view them at the
Development Services Department.

Office of the County Manager
P.
