Little, Director
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department

Subject: Resolution Honoring Vulcan Materials Company

Vulcan Materials Company has long been an active leader in the growth and
development of Frank Liske Park. Since 1986 Vulcan has donated over $30,000.00
through price reductions and materials for Frank Liske Park projects, including parking
lots, the amphitheater, and walking/jogging trails. The Cabarrus County Parks and
Recreation Commission voted on March 27, 1997, to name the proposed Frank Liske
Park perimeter trail in honor of Vulcan Materials Company in appreciation of their
contributions.

In September 1997, Vulcan Materials Company announced that Cabarrus County
will receive an in-kind donation of 5,000 tons of aggregate base course stone to use in the
1998 construction of parking lots at W.W. Flowe Park. Vulcan also donated the ABC
stone and rip rap for the erosion control at W.W. Flowe Park. The total value of their
donation is $20,222.25.

As stated above, Vulcan Materials Company has donated $50,000.00 in cost
savings to park projects at W.W. Flowe and Frank Liske Parks. On October 7, 1997, the
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission formally named a new picnic shelter
at Frank Liske Park for Vulcan Matierals Company for their contribution to the citizens
of Cabarrus County.

On behalf of the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department we greatly
applaud Vulcans Materials Company for their generous support toward new leisure
opportunities in Cabarrus County. Vulcan Materials Company is an excellent example of
partnership between the private sector and public government in the support of public
park and recreation opportunities.
