Newton <br />December 18, 1995 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />This would result in approximately 100 LF of joints sealed (caulked) without sawcutting, <br />approximately 400 to 500 LF sealed (caulked) with sawcutting, and the remaining 500 to 600 LF sealed <br />by application of a topcoat sealant. We will need to obtain NC Dam Safety's concurrence on the above <br />approach to sealing a portion of the joints with the topcoat sealant. The estimated costs of this task is <br />$17,500.00 based on the above approach. <br /> <br />HDR strongly recommends that the County authorize UUDSi to begin work on Items I through 3 <br />immediately, if possible for the following reasons: <br /> <br />the above outlined work is essential to the County receiving a final permit from <br />NC Dam Safety to operate the dam; <br /> <br />the County will receive maximum benefit from the work if it is performed during <br />cold weather when the cracks and joints are at their maximum width openings; <br />and <br /> <br />because UUDSI has personnel completing work in the vicinity, some cost <br />savings may be realized by minimizing their mobilization costs, and avoiding a <br />mobilization from their home offices in Tennessee or Florida. <br /> <br />The estimated cost of work under Items I through 3 is approximately $34,000. A portion of this cost <br />may be recovered from Blythe Construction when their contract is closed (Item I and possibly part or <br />all of Item 3). <br /> <br />The remainder of the work (at an estimated cost of approximately $30,000) will follow approval of NC <br />Dam Safety as to the method proposed. <br /> <br />We look forward to the opportunity to answer any questions and discuss the above proposal at your <br />earliest convenience.
