1995 96 Accomplishments

· Park Donations
Mary Lore Flowe and Harry G. Brown donated 65 acres
to Cabarrus County for a future community park. This
land, valued at $494,000 was the largest donation
Cabarrus County had ever received from one family.

· Lake Concord Properties for Future Park
On March 11, 1995, the Cabarms County Board of
Commissioners and City of Concord Aldermen agreed
to merge their water/sewer services. The City of Con-
cord conveyed Lake Concord an d 340 acres to Cabarrus
County for development as a public park.

Partnerships
The success of the programs sponsored by the Special
Populations/Special Events Division is due to the ex-
cellent cooperation we have had with individuals, non-
profit organizations, local businesses and corporations,
and other government agencies throughout the county
and region. Without their financial support, individual
leadership, and active participation the diverse range of
recreation opportunities offered by this division would
not have been possible.

Due to space limitations we can not list each individual
name and organization, however we would like to
thank all of our co-sponsors and volunteers for a very
successful year.

Proposed Park at Lake Concord
On May 11, 1995, the officials of Cabarms County and
City of Concord agreed to merge their water/sewer
services. The City of Concord conveyed Lake Concord
and 340 acres to the County for development as a public
recreational park. On May 17, 1995, the City of Kan-
napolis and Cabarrus County signed a letter of intent
that will lead to cheaper water rates for newly annexed
areas of the City and a park at Lake Concord. A
stipulation of the letter of intent is that the City of
Kannapolis will pay $390,000 to Cabarrus County over
a period of three years to develop a County Park at Lake
Concord.

With assistance from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's
Department, a limited rental boat fishing program was
implemented at the Lake Concord facilities. Bakers
Creek Park coordinates the permitting and collection of
fees for these boat rentals.
