]CASABI]S COUNFrI

MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners

Jonathan Marshall & Ma onnell/Planning Division

February 28, 1996

Growth and Population Statistics

The attached packet is a compilation of building permit information for Cabarrus
County intended to give you an overview of the type and amount of growth that is
occurring. There are a number of charts and graphs, but perhaps the most telling
number is the total estimated value of construction for Cabarrus County in 1995 of
$182,131,536 (up from $136,864,573 in 1994).

The information also includes an estimate of the current population and projections
up to the year 2000 based on current growth. We estimate that the current
population is slightly over 118,000 people.

We have also been working with the GIS division of the Information Services
Department to develop a system to distribute building permit data to specific
geographies. The final chart is compilation of building permits by type, distributed
to census tracts.

We will be presenting the information included in these charts and graphs, as well as
some maps showing the location of residential and non-residential growth.

Planning, Zoning, and Building Inspection
· .ol,-,r, mr~g:. 70,11 7~8-8141 ~. Zoning: (704) 788 8137 * Building Inspection: (704) 788-8128
