I CABAfll]US COUNTYI <br /> NORfH CAi~OLINA <br /> <br />April 24, 1996 <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: Board of Commissioners <br /> Clifton, Jr., County Manag~ <br />FROM: <br /> Frank <br /> W. <br /> vI <br />RE: Property Tax Collection Fees <br /> <br /> Cabarms County acts on behalf of the City of Kannapolis to bill and collect municipal <br />property taxes. The fee charged by the County to the City is currently 3~A percent of total taxes <br />collected. Based upon increases in the Kannapolis tax base, the County has derived increasing <br />revenues from this service that greatly exceed the cost of providing the service. <br /> <br /> It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners approve lowering the tax collection fee <br />charged the City of Kannapolis to 2~A percent of taxes collected. The revenues produced to the <br />County will be more in line with the County's cost of providing the service. <br /> <br /> Additionally, I will offer a proposal for your consideration during the upcoming budget <br />deliberations that may further reduce the collection fee.
