May 17, 1993 <br /> <br />Tag Col%ection Fees <br /> <br /> Mr. Bennett presented the proposal to decrease the current five percent <br />(5%) fee for the collection of property taxes for the City of Kannapolis to a fee <br />of three and one-half percent (3 1/2%) for property other than vehicles. He <br />stated City officials are considering the establishment of a City tax department <br />and the 3 1/2% collection fee would fairly represent the cost to establish and <br />operate a tax collection department for a city the size of Kannapolis. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Casper, seconded by Commissioner Payne and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the following tax collection fee schedule <br />based on the tax levy dollar volume for any of the cities located within Cabarrus <br />County. <br /> <br />Levy less than $3,000,000 <br />Levy $3,000,000 to $5,000,000 <br />Levy greater than $5,000,000 <br />Vehicles tax collections for all cities <br /> <br />5% collection fee <br />3 1/2% collection fee <br />negotiable <br />1 1/2% collection fee as <br />prescribed by N. C. law <br /> <br /> <br />
