Clifton,/Ir., County Manager~ <br />FROM: <br /> Frank <br /> <br />RE: Rimer Volunteer Fire Department $3,500 Loan <br /> <br />An issue which you may be aware of needs to be resolved in an appropriate manner. During the FY <br />'97 budget process, the Rimer Volunteer Fire Department had requested that the Board of <br />Commissioners increase the Rimer Fire District tax rate from $.045 to $.05. Through an error by <br />County staff, this request was not included in the FY '97 budget presentation; therefore, the Board <br />of Commissioners did not respond to the request. <br /> <br />The Rimer Volunteer Fire Department without waiting to see if the Board of Commissioners had <br />approved the request to increase the fire district tax rate did proceed with a lease purchase agreement <br />for the acquisition of a new pumper truck. <br /> <br />Two problems are now before the Rimer Volunteer Fire Department and the County. First, it is <br />assumed that the Board of Commissioners would have agreed to increase the Rimer Fire District tax <br />rate and second, the funds from the increase $3,500 would have been available to make the lease <br />payments on the vehicle. Neither of these two issues is reality. <br /> <br />To resolve this problem without negatively impacting the Rimer Fire District or the County's <br />relationship with the Rimer Volunteer Fire District and the several other fire districts, the following <br />proposal has been developed. <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />The Board of Commissioners will be asked to approve (and hopefully will agree to) an <br />increase in the tax rate for the Rimer Fire District from $.045 to $.05 effective for the FY '98 <br />budget year. Officially, that action will be incorporated into the FY '98 budget process and <br />no official action is required at this time. <br /> <br /> Office of the County Manager <br />P. O.
