September 9, 1996

MEMO

To~

Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
Cabarrus County Manager

From:

Steve L. Little, Director
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department

Subject: (1) Recommended Cabarrus County School/Park Proposal Report

(2) Memorandum of Agreements for providing coordinating school/park facilities
planning with Cabarrus County and Kannapolis Boards of Education

The first item requested on the agenda is the recommended Cabarms County
School/Park Proposal Report. On February 21, 1994 the Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners approved and endorsed the School/Park Concept Proposal for the Cabarrus
County and Kannapolis Boards of Education school sites. Over the past two years the Parks and
Recreation Commission and staff members have worked jointly with school principals, PTO
leaders and the general public toward completing major steps in the process of implementing a
vital School/Park Concept in Cabarrus County. The attached recommended report is enclosed for
your information and review. It reflects these major steps in the process:

An inventory of existing school projects and the school and community recreation
facilities at each of the 26 public school campuses in Cabarrus County.

Evaluation of the need for parks and recreation facilities in each community, and
the potential at each school site.

t7
